Description
Intelavir 50 mg Tablets is used in the treatment of HIV infection. Intelavir 50 mg contains dolutegravir, a potent antiretroviral medication used to manage HIV infection. It is part of a modern class of drugs known as integrase strand transfer inhibitors (INSTIs). Intelavir is widely prescribed due to its strong viral suppression, convenient once-daily dosing, and low risk of resistance, making it a cornerstone in HIV treatment regimens.
Intelavir 50 mg Tablets works by blocking the action of an enzyme called HIV integrase. This enzyme plays a critical role in the virus’s life cycle by helping insert the viral DNA into the host cell’s DNA. Without this step, the virus cannot replicate effectively. By preventing integration, dolutegravir stops the virus from multiplying and reduces the amount of HIV in the blood, allowing the immune system to strengthen over time.
Intelavir is used in combination with other antiretroviral drugs for the treatment of HIV-1 infection in adults and adolescents weighing at least 40 kilograms.
Intelavir 50 mg Tablets is generally well tolerated, but some people may experience side effects.Common side effects include headache, nausea, tiredness, trouble sleeping, and mild digestive discomfort. Some users may feel dizzy or have changes in mood.
In rare cases, dolutegravir may cause liver problems or severe allergic reactions, particularly in patients co-infected with hepatitis B or C. It can also cause a small increase in creatinine levels, which affects kidney test results but usually does not indicate actual kidney damage.
